I’ve been collecting rusty junk for yard ornaments for years but I’ve never attempted to incorporate those pieces into my art before. Last summer I taught a children’s Robots class at the Art Center. I collected tin cans, broken action figures, nuts, bolts, and old computer parts. The kids had a ball. Frankly, I was jealous. I wanted to play too. So I kept collecting…anything that looked like it could be something else. I spent last winter drilling, gluing and cutting metal. Wow, what fun. In spite of all the cuts and bruises I loved it. In Feb. I had a show at The Burkholder Project in Lincoln with my new work. I was very excited to sell a third of the show. This gave me permission to collect MORE. Here’s a look at my new work and passion. |
